LONGHORN FAMILY CONNECTION

NOVEMBER, 2025

Dear Longhorn Families,

What a beautiful Fall we’ve been blessed with!  As we begin the month of November, I’m always careful to count my blessings and I always begin with the blessing of Agate School in my life.  I’ve attended two trainings recently by the Colorado Department of Education, and at both trainings, the trainers gave a shout out to the Agate School District for our growth, achievement and creativity!  Today I received an email with the following:

I’m excited to share that The Education Magazine is preparing a special edition titled “The 10 Most Admired School Districts 2026”. This issue will celebrate the remarkable school districts that are making a significant impact on education across the USA.

Given your district’s outstanding achievements, we would be honored to feature it in this prestigious edition. Our aim is to showcase the unique qualities and innovations that distinguish your district, sharing your story with our broad readership.

Here are a few highlights about your district that make it a standout:

· Under your leadership as Superintendent (“Melinda Walls”), Agate School District No. 300 describes itself as “A small school with BIG OPPORTUNITY right in the heart of Elbert County – Home of the LONGHORNS!”

· The district’s small size supports a low student-to-teacher ratio (9:1 at the elementary level) which helps to foster a more personalized learning environment.

Isn’t that wonderful!  I’ll keep you informed if it comes to fruition.

Our Longhorn Coffee Shop continues its commitment to quality and many in the community and our students are learning many soft and hard skills needed for the workforce. Ms. Satterfield continues her amazing work with our elementary master gardeners and they will be showcasing some of their work at the Science Fair!  Our elementary students are working hard, as well, and our reading & math scores continue to rise!

Here are some important upcoming events for November:

November 4:  Vision/hearing tests in the elementary

November 5:  MS Basketball at home vs Edison at 4:30

November 6:  2:35 Assembly and from 6:00 – 8:00 Fall Harvest & Science Fair!

November 11:  2:36 Veterans Day Assembly – Please come & support our Veterans

November 12:  cogAT testing for 6th grade

November 13:  Jansen company will be in the gym with a display of Agate class rings, belt buckles, jackets, etc.  2:35

Blessings to you and your family,

Melinda Walls, Superintendent

Agate School District
